Basic Computer Literacy Course
Basic Computer Literacy Course is one of the seminars required by the Cooperative Development Authority for Audit Committee, BOD Secretary, Election Committee and General Manager/CEO to undertake.
Today November 26 until the 28th I am attending this course together with the Officers of my Cooperatives: Sta. Catalina MPC and Sta. Catalina Credit Cooperative.  When we were informed of the training, we have different reactions. Some are worried since they are not familiar with computer, some smiled because they only know how to open the computer, play the games and turn off, while others do not even know how to turn-on the unit.
I know of Microsoft Word, Spreadsheet, Power-point, and maybe very little of Photoshop.  The course says basic, but I am still excited to attend and am looking forward to learn from the three day seminar. The pacing of development in Technology is very fast.  What I learned yesterday might be obsolete today.
Here I am now facing my “lowbat” laptop while listening to my resource speaker.  Good luck to my new learning experience with computer and its applications.

Santa Catalina Multi-purpose Cooperative was organized on November 4, 1984 by 47 pioneering members spearheaded by a missionary priest Fr. Alfredo M. Epiz, OMI, because of great needs of farmers during that time of drought.
The initial capitalization of 17k (7k from 47 members and 10k from the parish)to start consumer store and buy and sell of agricultural product especially palay, corn and copra, which is main product of farmers during that time.
The first name of cooperative is Kooperatibang Tindahan sa Parokya later change to Sta. Catalina Multi-purpose Cooperative in the honor of patron saint Santa Catalina de Alexandria.
The first members of management and staff headed general manager Edgar Amoronio, was receiving a very minimal compensation as a volunteer.
Fortunately, because of good management and attitudes of the pioneering members of management with the support pioneering members, the cooperative grow rapidly.
As of now the cooperative split into to the sta. Catalina Multi-purpose cooperative operating Production and marketing department (agricultural products) and Merchandising Department(grocery store, San Miguel Beer dealership and gasoline refilling station) the Sta. Catalina Credit Cooperative offering financial services to and accepting various deposits from members.

CONDUCT OF MANDATE TRAININGS DAVAO REGION SHED

HON. ELMA R. OGUIS, CPA, CSEE.
Regional Director
Cooperative Development Authority
Davao Regional Office
2/F CAM Bldg., Monteverde St. City

Dear Director Oguis,

Warm greetings!

We understand that your Agency is the lead regulatory branch of government and as such it is committed to ensure compliance of laws governing economically-empowered communities of like-minded people, the cooperatives. To ensure their viability and sustainability in serving its member-patrons and the general public as an economic and social enterprise, we posit that your primordial consideration then is their broad competences in doing business that contribute to our national economy under a regulated environment. One of the indicators where their competencies can be observed is when the people running in every cooperative enterprise implement Section 5, Rule 7 of the IRR implementing Article 44 of R.A. 9520 to which you are enforcing.

In observance with the mandate of the law above mention and to help cooperatives complied with it, we, as one of your accredited training providers, will be holding the conduct of Fourteen (14) with approved curriculum of the Twenty-one (21) mandated training courses pursuant to numerous query and requests by concern officers from cooperatives operating in your region and by the representation made by your field men. Please find attached schedule and pro-forma letter-invitation for your reference. However, we believe that the conduct of these courses can only be successful in close coordination with your office considering that you are in the best position who knows who are these co-op officers and cooperatives due to comply.

It is for these reasons that we are writing you and once again appealing from your office for any assistance in the generation and confirmation target participants and a point-technical man for every course under the supervision of your Regional Training Officer to ensure attainment of goal and objectives of all mandated courses as it has been our culture of having your agency in all our activities which involve other cooperatives. In doing so, we will still maintain our usual arrangements.

Lastly, we hereby authorized your point men and / or CDS to acknowledge receipt of confirmations as they are also monitoring compliance of coop officers in your area with due consideration of our confirmation deadlines to avoid inconveniences in the conduct of the courses. Should you have relative concerns on this matter, kindly contact Dir. R. Escultor and / or our MSO Technical Supervisor Ms. MERLEN L. FLORES.

We are anticipating your favorable and altruistic support on this matter for the benefit of the cooperative sector in particular and our
        country in general.

         Very truly yours,

         RIZALINO SON. CHUA
Designated Training Asst. & ADR Service Coordinator
